Sustainability

organic

The main objective of the Linbo consortium is to generate, through targeted policies, profitability for producers and quality for consumers with high standards of sustainability.

Sustainable practices in agriculture are crucial to ensure environmental health, food security and long-term economic resilience. These techniques focus on the efficient use of natural resources and the reduction of environmental impact.

The main ally in our work is the environment, thanks to which we are able to produce fruit of the highest quality. We farmers must be the guardians of the natural ecosystem and raise awareness so that the risks of climate change can be mitigated.

water

a fundamental resource that is protected in Linbo

Water use and wastage in agriculture are crucial issues for environmental sustainability and food security. Agriculture is the most water-consuming sector globally, using about 70 per cent of available water resources. This makes optimising water use essential to address challenges such as climate change, growing demand for food and water scarcity.
Linbo adopts innovative irrigation techniques through the use of drip-wings.
The use of drip emitters (or drip irrigation) offers significant advantages over traditional irrigation systems, especially in terms of water savings. Drip lines consist of tubes placed close to the ground, which release water directly at the base of the plants, minimising evaporation and ensuring that the water is absorbed more efficiently by the roots.
Unlike sprinkler or high-pressure irrigation systems, which disperse large amounts of water into the air, drip irrigation avoids waste due to wind and surface run-off. This method can reduce water consumption by 30-50%.

Thanks to the irrigation techniques adopted, Linbo will save around 800 million litres, equivalent to:

  • to 320 Olympic-size swimming pools
  • the annual needs of 12K people
  • one and a half times the size of Bracciano lake.
bees

our commitment to protection

Bees are among the main pollinators of many fruit plants and agricultural crops. Approximately 75% of the world’s food crops depend, at least in part, on animal pollination, and bees contribute significantly to this process. Without them, many plants could not reproduce effectively, leading to a decrease in biodiversity and food availability

Linbo mandarins are naturally sterile, which avoids the need to remove bees for seedless fruit, thus preserving the local ecosystem.

Co2

we minimise emissions

The topic of CO2 emissions is at the centre of political debate and future innovation strategies in the industrial and agricultural sectors. At Linbo, through the adoption of innovative technical-agronomic tools such as the use of useful insects, which are manually placed in the production facilities, we significantly reduce the use of combustion-powered agricultural tractors, resulting in lower CO2 emissions.

We estimate that the entire consortium produces annual CO2 savings of around 50,000 kg.

plastic

we minimise the use of plastic

The consortium also aims to minimise environmental impact in packaging and distribution by using fully recyclable packaging for its premium mandarins, reducing the amount of non-biodegradable waste. This approach helps minimise the impact of plastic waste on the environment, promoting a circular economy where materials are reused instead of ending up in landfills or the oceans.

chemicals

we minimise the use of chemicals

The excessive use of chemicals in agriculture causes soil and water pollution, pest resistance, loss of biodiversity, and risks to human health. To address these challenges, it is crucial to adopt sustainable agricultural practices and promote integrated management methods.

Linbo is committed to producing ‘zero residue’ and ‘organic’ mandarins through the adoption of innovative production specifications that generate a significant reduction in chemical pesticides and guarantee a completely natural and safe fruit for consumers, with EDIBLE peel that can therefore be used 100% for the production of liqueurs, jams, candied fruit, and essential oils. The goal is to have 80 per cent of the club’s entire production at ResiduoZero and/or Organic in the shortest possible time.
